Maruti Suzuki introduced its first electric vehicle – the e Vitara – only a few months ago and the YMC could be the next step in consolidating the brand’s EV expansion plan
Fresh spy shots of a heavily camouflaged test mule have surfaced and all signs point to this being the Maruti Suzuki YMC – the brand’s upcoming seven-seat electric MPV. The prototype is wrapped in the typical zebra-stripe camouflage used during development testing but enough of the silhouette comes through to confirm a tall, boxy MPV form factor with a relatively long wheelbase, prominent rear overhang and what appears to be a large boot opening.
The front end shows a closed-off grille area suggesting an electric powertrain underneath, flanked by sleek headlamp clusters. The side profile reveals a high roofline with significant glass area across all three rows and the rear three-quarter shots show a squared-off tail section with vertical tail lamps. The proportions suggest a vehicle measuring around 4.5 metres in length.

The MPV is expected to go on sale either by the end of 2026 or in early 2027 giving the brand a significant presence in the midsize seven-seat electric space before competition in the segment hardens further.
The YMC could be developed in collaboration with Toyota – mirroring the strategy behind the e Vitara and the soon-launching Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella – and is expected to share platform components and powertrain elements with the e Vitara. Production could take place at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility which also handles the e Vitara and is expected to serve export markets alongside domestic demand.
The shared architecture approach helps keep costs in check and improves economies of scale – a crucial factor for a brand that will need to price the YMC competitively to drive volumes. Pricing is expected to be below the Kia Carens Clavis EV as the YMC could be significantly more accessible to family buyers looking for a practical three-row EV.
The MG Windsor EV could the other reference point given its success in demonstrating that there is real appetite for electric vehicles with more space and usability. Maruti Suzuki’s strength in the conventional MPV space – built over years through the Ertiga and XL6 – should give the YMC a credibility advantage over newer entrants.
It will likely be sold with the same 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs with the claimed range going over 500 km between charges.
