Here we have brought you a rundown of the 4 new hybrid SUVs from Kia that are expected to hit the domestic market over the next few years
With a comprehensive global hybrid portfolio already in place and India’s appetite for electrified but non-BEV powertrains in growing stage, the Korean brand is now preparing to bring four hybrid SUVs to the market across different segments and price points. Here we have listed the possible arrivals:
1. Kia Carnival Hybrid
The Carnival Hybrid is expected to land next year and is the most straightforward addition to the lineup with familiar premium MPV packaging that the market is accustomed to. Globally, it uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine in conjunction with a 75 hp electric motor for a combined output of around 245 hp and 368 Nm coupled with a six-speed AT.
India will likely receive it as a CBU import given the volumes expected at this price point likely sitting above the current Carnival’s Rs 75 lakh starting price.
2. Kia Seltos Hybrid
The Seltos is the brand’s volume anchor here and adding a full parallel hybrid to the range puts it directly in the path of the Toyota Hyryder strong hybrid and hybrid-spec Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Grand Vitara. The global Seltos hybrid pairs a 1.6-litre unit with an electric motor for around 141 hp combined and 265 Nm. It could be mated to a dual-clutch six-speed automatic. We do expect it to arrive next FY.
3. Next-Gen Sonet Hybrid
The next generation Sonet itself is expected to arrive as a full model change in 2027 judging by the spy images but the hybrid variant has been pencilled in for around 2029. The current Sonet has no hybrid option globally but the incoming platform could be engineered to support electrified powertrains from the ground up. When it does arrive, a full hybrid in the compact SUV space would have a real efficiency advantage over other options.
4. Kia Sorento Hybrid
The upcoming Sorento Hybrid will be Kia’s entry into the premium three-row hybrid SUV space. The international version uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol and electric motor combination producing 230 hp combined – coupled with a six-speed automatic and available with all-wheel drive. India will likely receive it as a CBU – priced north of Rs 50 lakh ex-showroom. A launch in early 2027 appears highly likely.
