Maruti Suzuki electric MPV, internally codenamed YMC, is expected to go on sale by the end of this year or in early 2027
Following multiple delays, Maruti Suzuki introduced its first all-electric offering for India only a few months ago and now the brand looks to expand its presence in this highly lucrative segment. The compact and midsize zero-emission PV space has been well received by customers and over the last 12 to 18 months, the competition has only intensified.
The Indo-Japanese manufacturer will look to jump on the bandwagon by expanding its EV range over the next two to three year. It is reportedly preparing to enter the 7-seater electric vehicle segment in India with an all-new MPV internally codenamed YMC. The upcoming people mover is expected to arrive by the end of 2026 or early next year.
It will likely be positioned as a volume-based yet premium electric MPV. With strong dominance already established in the conventional MPV category through products such as the Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki appears ready to consolidate its position further targetting families looking for a practical three-row EV with usable cabin space and competitive pricing.

Reports indicate that the model could measure around 4.5 metres in length and will share several components with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. Shared architecture and powertrain elements are expected to help the company achieve better economies of scale while keeping production costs under control. It could be rolled out of Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat manufacturing facility alongside the e Vitara.
The plant is also expected to serve export markets as well. The company is said to be developing the YMC in collaboration with Toyota. It is worth noting that Toyota’s version of the e Vitara, the Urban Cruiser Ebella, will hit the market soon. Similar to the e Vitara project, the MPV could benefit from shared engineering resources and good levels of localisation.

The new MPV may also be positioned below the recently launched Kia Carens Clavis EV in terms of pricing. The Clavis EV currently starts at around Rs. 18 lakh and Maruti Suzuki could adopt a more aggressive pricing strategy to attract people in aplenty. The demand for large-sized electric vehicles has been increasing steadily in India and the YMC will look to capitalise on it by taking on the likes of MG Windsor EV.
