Following the facelifted Hyundai Verna last month, three more new sedans are planned to be launched in India this year
Sedans may be losing ground in the Indian market, but they still represent a considerable share of sales for some brands. Companies like Skoda, Volkswagen, and Honda still get much of their business in our market from sedans. All three of them plan to launch new sedans this year.
On 22 May, Honda will launch a new City, aimed at strengthening its position in the so-called mid-size sedan segment. The new City won’t be the sixth-generation model but rather another updated version of the fifth-generation model, which broke cover in November 2019 and was first refreshed in March 2023.
The second facelift for the fifth-generation City is likely to bring subtle design changes to parts for which the process isn’t technically complex or cost-intensive, such as the bumpers, headlamps, grilles, and tail lamps. Honda will likely offer new 16-inch alloy wheels and a new paint option as well.

Inside, the changes are likely to be more practical, aimed at improving comfort and convenience. A driver’s seat with power adjustment and ventilation, a front passenger seat with ventilation, an updated infotainment system, and a fully digital instrument cluster could be among the main upgrades here. The Honda Sensing suite of advanced driver assistance systems could be expanded.
Sometime in the third quarter of the year, the Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus are also likely to undergo a facelift. Both models will feature redesigned headlamps and tail lamps, restyled bumpers, new grilles, and new 16-inch alloy wheels. Both cars should gain an illuminated brand logo at the rear, and the VW Virtus may come with this feature even at the front. New colour options are expected on the facelifted sedans.

Inside, the Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus will gain a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an upgraded air-conditioning system. The former may come with even a massage seat in the back. Both cars will receive a new 8-speed automatic transmission, offered as an option with the 1.0-litre TSI engine, replacing the 6-speed automatic transmission of the current models. This change will likely increase the fuel economy by around 1 km/l and make the driving experience smoother.
