BYD’s global C-SUV, Atto 3, fully redesigned and reengineered for its second generation; now equipped with the company’s second-gen Blade batteries

Called Yuan Plus in China, the Atto 3 has been a key model in BYD’s global expansion. Less than five years into its lifecycle, it has received a full makeover and entered its second generation. The all-new BYD Atto 3 may feature an evolutionary design, but it is significantly bigger than the first-gen model. Measuring 4,665 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, it is 210 mm longer, 20 mm wider, and 60 mm higher. Its wheelbase, at 2,770 mm, is 50 mm longer.

An edgier and more low-profile exterior design gives the all-new BYD Atto 3 a more mature and elegant look. The front-end is more upright and flaunts sharper headlamps. Unlike the old model, it has a frunk, too, offering 180 litres of additional space.

On the sides, the body-coloured wheel arches and semi-recessed door handles give the vehicle a cleaner appearance. The elongated but still visually low body gives the all-new Atto 3 a more planted stance. Larger, 19-inch alloy wheels further improve the dynamic styling. The rear-end is even more upright, along with fewer curves and more technical-looking tail lamps.

The interior is also completely new, but just like in the first-gen model, rounded design elements are seen throughout the cabin. A two-spoke steering wheel featuring flattened top and bottom sections is one of the key visual changes here. A 1.1 m2 panoramic sunroof, a 256-colour ambient lighting system, and a 16-speaker sound system are some of the key interior features of the latest Atto 3.

BYD has introduced the all-new Atto 3 in China in two RWD variants, one with a 200 kW (268 hp) motor and a 57.545 kWh LFP battery pack and one with a 240 kW (322 hp) motor and a 68.547 kWh LFP battery pack. The company has said that the latest model supports flash charging, but has yet to disclose the charging times. It offers this technology in multiple models already, with the best version allowing users to charge the vehicle from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes and 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes.

The current Atto 3, priced from Rs. 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, is likely to remain on sale for the foreseeable future. BYD is unlikely to launch the all-new Atto 3 anytime before next year.
