Here we have explained the 5 possible upcoming Toyota SUVs that are expected to arrive over the next 12-24 months in India
Toyota’s SUV portfolio in India is expected to witness significant expansion over the next few years covering multiple price points and body styles. Many new products are understood to be under evaluation as the brand looks to consolidate its footprint in one of the country’s fastest growing vehicle segments. Below is a look at five upcoming Toyota SUVs that could reach Indian showrooms in the coming years:
1. 7-Seater Toyota Corolla:
Toyota could be looking at a three-row derivative of the global Corolla Cross for India riding on the TNGA-C platform and it could gain a 150 mm longer wheelbase than the standard model – creating space for an additional seating row. Engine options are likely to comprise a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit alongside a 2.0-litre strong hybrid powertrain. Production is expected to take place at Toyota’s upcoming manufacturing facility in the Bidkin Industrial Area around 2028 or 2029.
2. Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner:

Development of the next-generation Fortuner is well underway with test prototypes already appearing overseas. The SUV is expected to share its underpinnings with the ninth-gen Hilux which will go on sale later this month in India with improvements in off-road capability and other areas. A comprehensive redesign is also on the cards as a sharper exterior, a substantially reworked cabin and a range of new technologies than the current model are possible. It will arrive sometime next year.

3. 7-Seater Toyota Hyryder:

The likelihood of a three-row SUV may expand the Hyryder family into a larger segment – taking on rivals such as the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar. Visual changes are likely to centre around an extended rear overhang and a third seating row while much of the front-end styling could stay closely related to the current Hyryder. Familiar powertrain options are also expected to carry over including a strong hybrid unit.
4. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado:

Toyota is understood to be evaluating the global Land Cruiser Prado for the domestic market. Should the plan receive the green light, the SUV would enter the country as a completely built unit and slot beneath the Land Cruiser 300. The international-spec Prado is underpinned by Toyota’s TNGA-F architecture and uses petrol and diesel engine choices, each coupled with a four-wheel-drive system.

5. Toyota Land Cruiser FJ:

To likely be positioned below the Fortuner, the Land Cruiser FJ has created quite a buzz since its global debut and it sits on the IMV 0 ladder-frame platform. It could be powered by the familiar 2.8-litre diesel engine hooked with a six-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels as standard for India. Taking design inspiration from the legendary FJ, the interior is heavily influenced by the latest LC models and it could launch around 2028.
