Luxury electric vehicle registrations more than doubled in June 2026 as BMW held a commanding lead over Mercedes-Benz in India
The luxury EV space recorded another appreciable month in June 2026 with registrations climbing to 804 units compared to 391 units recorded in the same month last year. The category expanded by 105.6 per cent on a year-on-year basis and also posted a 20.9 per cent improvement over May 2026. BMW and Mercedes-Benz accounted for nearly nine out of every ten luxury EV registrations during the month.
BMW stayed well ahead of the competition after registering 489 luxury EVs – capturing a commanding 60.8 per cent market share. Compared to 242 units in June 2025, the German luxury brand more than doubled its tally resulting in 102.1 per cent year-on-year growth. BMW also added 115 registrations over May with a healthy 30.7 per cent month-on-month increase.
Mercedes-Benz secured second place with 234 registrations as it accounted for 29.1 per cent of the segment. The brand posted 107.1 per cent year-on-year growth after improving from 113 units in June last year. Compared to May 2026, registrations also increased by 7.8 per cent allowing Mercedes-Benz to consolidate its position behind BMW.

Volvo occupied third place after recording 36 registrations by improving 24.1 per cent over June 2025 while ending the month with a 4.5 per cent market share. Tesla followed closely in fourth with 35 registrations and 4.4 per cent of the market. Despite volumes slipping marginally by 2.8 per cent compared to May, the American EV manufacturer maintained its presence among luxury zero-emission vehicle brands.
Porsche finished fifth with eight registrations by improving from five units recorded in May. Audi and Lotus shared the final positions after registering one luxury EV each during June. Both brands witnessed lower volumes than the corresponding month last year and their contribution remained relatively small within the overall segment.

The Vahan figures until July 2, 2026 shows the rapid expansion of the premium electric vehicle market. BMW retained a sizeable advantage over Mercedes-Benz while Volvo, Tesla and Porsche completed the top 5.
