Maruti Suzuki is planning a huge product assault with production expansion to consolidate its market share further

Maruti Suzuki is preparing for a significant manufacturing expansion over the next few years. Speculations point towards annual production approaching the 30 lakh unit mark as the company gears up for a new generation of utility vehicles, electrified offerings and updated mainstream models to increase its sales numbers further in the industry.

The country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer is targeting production of around 2.82 million units in FY27. It would mean a substantial jump over the previous financial year and shows the confidence Maruti Suzuki has in both domestic and overseas markets. The company already contributes a sizeable portion of India’s PV manufacturing output while also remaining one of the nation’s biggest automobile exporters.

A major reason behind this manufacturing push is the changing shape of the domestic market. Traditional hatchbacks and sedans no longer command the same influence they once did while high-riding vehicles now occupy an increasingly larger share of customer preference. To address the transformation, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly preparing an extensive utility vehicle offensive spread across multiple price points and body styles.

Until these future products arrive, familiar nameplates will continue carrying the bulk of the company’s volumes. Models such as the Fronx, Grand Vitara, Brezza and Ertiga remain central to showroom traffic while the Baleno, Swift and WagonR will look to attract significant numbers in the hatchback space. These vehicles will provide the foundation upon which the company’s next expansion cycle is being built.

Several lifecycle updates are also understood to be in development. Existing volume generators are expected to receive revisions in the coming years as Maruti Suzuki seeks to keep its portfolio competitive. As many as seven new SUVs could enter the market over the next two to three years. In addition to the e Vitara, another battery-powered model is understood to be progressing under development. Carrying the YMC codename, the MPV will be underpinned by the Heartect e platform and will utilise the similar 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs.

The Indo-Japanese manufacturer recently launched the flex-fuel spec WagonR while the updated versions of the Baleno, Fronx and Brezza are also under development.
