The electric passenger vehicle industry in India is growing at a rapid pace despite limited models in the budget-friendly segment. If we take a look at Feb 2026 sales volumes, a total of 20,616 EVs were sold during this period. Hence, more and more automakers are gearing up to enter this space in the Indian market. Several leading players have even started road testing of their upcoming electric models and hence, in this piece, we will talk in detail about the new electric cars spied on test in India.

1. Honda 0 Alpha EV

Honda recently flagged off the test run for its upcoming electric SUV in the Indian market. Christened as 0 Alpha EV, it will be the Japanese brand’s first electric model in India. Having made its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo, it will be launched in FY 2026–27 with India and Japan being the key markets among others.

Honda 0 Alpha electric SUV will be locally developed in India and exported to multiple international markets. The technical specs are kept under wraps, but it is believed that it will return a range of 500 km on a single charge with rivals like Maruti e-Vitara, Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Harrier EV.

2. Tata Sierra EV

Tata Sierra EV will debut in the first quarter of FY27 (Apr-Jun 2026) in the Indian market. The all-electric derivative of the Sierra will be positioned between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV. The sources have hinted that it will be offered with single-motor rear wheel drive and dual-motor all wheel drive configurations.

The battery packs of 55 kWh and 65 kWh will be shared with the Harrier EV with almost identical range figures. Tata Sierra EV is expected to come with Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging and Level 2 ADAS among others. With this new model, Tata Motors will have the widest electric vehicle portfolio.

3. Mahindra BEO7

Earlier this month, Mahindra BE.O7 was spotted testing for the first time on the Indian roads. It will be the second electric model under the BE series while being the fourth born-electric SUV after XEV 9e, BE 6 and XEV 9S. Slated to launch in 2027, it will measure nearly 4.6 metres in length. It will sit on the INGLO born-electric platform while equipped with 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery pack options.

The production-ready model of the BE O7 is likely to be introduced with a new name as it challenges the likes of Tata Harrier EV and Vinfast VF7. The 5-seater electric SUV is going to be a huge volume driver, stated Mahindra’s Auto division CEO Rajesh Jejurikar during the quarterly earnings call.

4. Hyundai Electric SUV

Recently, a boxy-shaped mystery Hyundai electric SUV was spotted at a public charging station in Goa. The all-electric model was wearing heavy camouflage but the spy pics showed a few noticeable elements in the form of upright stance, boxy silhouette, flat roofline, 16/17-inch alloy wheels and roof rails.

It is likely to be a sub 4-metre electric SUV, aimed squarely at Tata Nexon EV. Unlike Hyundai’s other EVs in India, this particular model has been designed and developed keeping in mind the domestic buyers in the Indian market. The new Hyundai electric SUV will be positioned below the Creta EV while expected to break cover by the end of 2026.

5. Kia Syros EV

Kia India is working on the electrified version of the Syros and it has been spotted multiple times during test runs on countryside roads. Based on the Hyundai Inster-inspired K1 platform, Kia Syros EV will be available with a front-wheel-drive setup. Sources told us that it will be presented as Kia’s most affordable electric vehicle in India while positioned below the Carens Clavis EV.

The e-SUV will be equipped with 42 kWh and 49 kWh battery packs with a maximum driving range of 369 km on a full charge. Likely to launch in the second half of 2026, the Syros EV will be priced in a bracket of Rs 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom). The overall design and cabin will be identical to the ICE version

6. 2026 Tata Tiago EV facelift

The brand’s smallest and most affordable electric car in India is getting a makeover with refreshed design, modern features and bigger battery packs. The 2026 Tata Tiago EV has already been spied testing with camouflage on the Indian roads. It will be launched in the second quarter (Jul-Sep) of FY27 in the domestic market.

The ongoing version is sold with 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh batteries which return driving ranges of 223 km and 293 km, respectively, making it an ideal city car. Tata Tiago EV directly rivals MG Comet EV, which is quite smaller in size than the Tata EV. The interior images of the 2026 Tiago EV facelift are not available at the moment.
