Toyota reported total sales of 33,128 units in May 2026 – registering a 7 per cent increase compared to 30,864 units
More than three lakh strong hybrid vehicles sold in India and another month of healthy volume growth ensures Toyota growing position in the domestic passenger vehicle market. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported total sales of 33,128 units in May 2026 – registering a 7 per cent increase compared to 30,864 units sold during the same month last year.
The local sales figures remained the primary contributor to volumes as Toyota dispatched 30,574 vehicles in India last month with a 4 per cent increase over the 29,280 units sold in May 2025. Exports registered much stronger growth rising 61 per cent to 2,554 units from 1,584 units recorded a year ago.
Toyota’s passenger vehicle portfolio includes products such as Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Fortuner, Hilux, Camry and Glanza with hybrid models staying put to play a particularly important role in the company’s growth strategy. A major milestone achieved during the month was the crossing of three lakh cumulative strong hybrid electric vehicle sales in India.

The Japanese auto major has been one of the biggest advocates of hybrid technology in the country and currently commands a significant share of the hybrid PV market through products such as the Hyryder and Innova Hycross. The positive numbers is equally visible in the year to date numbers. Between January and May 2026, Toyota recorded total sales of 1,70,322 units compared to 1,46,021 units during the corresponding period last year with a 17 per cent increase.
The domestic volumes during the first five months of the calendar year stood at 1,57,225 units – up 16 per cent from 1,35,078 units recorded during the same period twelve months ago (January to May 2025). Its export performance also remained appreciably healthy – increasing 20 per cent to 13,097 units from 10,943 units.

Only a few days ago, Toyota introduced its first EV in India – the Urban Cruiser Ebella. Offered in the top-spec E3 variant, the midsize electric SUV is equipped with a 61 kWh battery pack which is capable of a claimed driving range of 543 km between charges. It is based on the same Heartect-e platform as the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
