Renault has confirmed that four new models will be designed and assembled in India by 2030 including a sub-four-metre Duster based SUV

Renault has made India one of the centrepieces of its new ‘futuREady’ growth plan. As part of it, our domestic market will remain a key market for garnering sales volumes and it will also evolve into a major production and export base serving multiple regions. The brand has confirmed that four new models will be designed and assembled in India by 2030.

The list includes fully electric and hybrid vehicles. It is a huge step for the company which has already spent fifteen years building its presence in the country and wants to use that foundation to scale up faster. Recently, Renault introduced the third generation Duster in India with prices starting at Rs. 10.49 lakh and going up to Rs. 18.69 lakh (ex-showroom).

The all-new Duster based on the RGMP platform will spawn a seven-seater sibling in the next financial year and before the closure of next CY, a brand new sub-four-metre SUV will arrive. One of the clearest indicators of Renault’s India intent is the Bridger Concept which made its debut a few weeks ago. It will be built in India for the local market as well as for exports to other regions.

Renault says the model is being developed on the RGMP small modular platform and will be offered with multiple powertrain choices including internal combustion, hybrid and electric options depending on market requirements. For India, the Bridger could be especially relevant because it targets one of the hottest segments in the market.

Compact SUVs continue to remain popular and Renault appears keen to enter the space with a product that will sit above the Kiger. The concept features 200 mm ground clearance, 18-inch wheels, SUV-inspired styling and a spacious cabin despite its compact footprint. Renault says rear knee room stands at 200 mm while boot space is rated at 400 litres.

Representational

Renault is betting on India’s integrated ecosystem and market understanding to support quicker development cycles and stronger localisation – both of which are crucial in a price-sensitive market. As for hybrids, the new Duster features one but it will be available only later this year. The 1.8L strong hybrid system will also be employed in other models. An affordable locally-made zero-emission vehicle could also be in the pipeline.
