In the coming months, three popular mid-sized sedans from key brands such as Honda, Skoda and VW will get big updates in the Indian market
The sedan segment has witnessed a gradual decline in the Indian market as buyers have drifted towards SUVs due to their practicality, strong road presence and higher ground clearance. However, despite this shift, the segment has not died and certain models continue to find buyers like before. Several leading automakers are planning to give big updates to their existing sedans, which will be launched in the coming months in the country. In this piece, we will talk in detail about the 3 upcoming sedans in 2026-27 in India.
2026 Skoda Slavia Facelift: The premium sedan from Skoda will get substantial updates in terms of styling and features. The mid-cycle facelift is likely to be launched around the festive season of Diwali later this year. The 2026 Skoda Slavia facelift was spotted testing last month in the country and the spy images revealed the inclusion of dynamic (LED) turn signals in place of the regular halogen units.
The spy pics suggested that Skoda could also offer a redesigned front grille and refreshed alloy wheels. The cabin is expected to be upgraded with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display as standard while the rear seats will get massage function as a first-in-class features. Mechanically, the 2026 Slavia facelift will continue with the 1.0L 3-cylinder TSI and 1.5L 4-cylinder TSI petrol engines while gearbox duties will be performed by 6-speed manual, 8-speed automatic and 7-speed dual-clutch units.

2026 Volkswagen Virtus Facelift: The 2026 Virtus facelift was captured on camera with heavy camouflage earlier this month. It will be the first major update for the sedan since its launch in 2022 in the Indian market. The sources close to development reveal that the 2026 Volkswagen Virtus facelift will be rolled out with significant design updates, latest features and a new transmission option.
The spy shots showed the new iteration of the sedan with restyled bumpers and newly-designed alloy wheels. The cabin will be on the similar lines as the recently launched Taigun SUV, which comes with a 10.1-inch central touchscreen infotainment system and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The 1.0 and 1.5L turbocharged petrol engines will be retained, albeit with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox which replaces the 6-speed torque converter unit.

2026 Honda City Facelift: The first pictures of the 2026 Honda City facelift emerged on the web last month from Brazil. As per the spy images, it will take styling cues from the global version of the Civic. The 2026 City facelift will come with minor visual updates at the outside as well as inside the cabin because Honda is already working on the new-gen model, which is likely to debut by early 2028 in India.
Mechanically, the 2026 City facelift will be powered by the same naturally-aspirated 1.5L petrol engine which is good for 119 bhp and 145 Nm. The 6-speed manual and 7-speed CVT automatic units will be continued as well. On the other hand, the City eHEV will also retain the 1.5L Atkinson petrol hybrid setup which has the naturally-aspirated petrol engine, dual electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack. It is linked to an e-CVT gearbox.
