2026 Hyundai Exter gets visual enhancements, an improved features list and cabin along with more standard safety equipment
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has introduced the updated Exter in the domestic market with introductory prices beginning at Rs. 5.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as a refreshed version of the micro SUV, the new model gets more than 25 upgrades. The company says the Exter has already found over two lakh customers in India since its initial launch.
On the outside, the revised Exter receives noticeable styling changes. Hyundai has fitted a reworked front fascia, a redesigned black grille, new bumpers at both ends, new tailgate and C-pillar detailing, additional wheel arch cladding and a wing-style rear spoiler. The SUV also rides on a set of newly designed 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
In terms of dimensions, it measures 3,830 mm in length, 1,723 mm in width and 1,643 mm in height with roof rails while the wheelbase stands at 2,450 mm. The Korean automaker claims it is the tallest model in its segment and also offers the longest wheelbase. The cabin has also been given a more premium appearance with a new navy-and-grey dual-tone finish and a revised 3D carbon-effect dashboard treatment.

Hyundai has also added metal pedals, a D-cut steering wheel, updated seat upholstery and a folding armrest for the driver. Rear headrests and driver seat height adjustment are now standard across the range giving more value to customers. The petrol variants continue to offer a boot volume of 391 litres while the dual-cylinder CNG version provides 225 litres of luggage space and now comes with an underbody spare wheel as standard.
The Exter continues with features such as an electric sunroof, digital instrument cluster and over-the-air updates for maps and infotainment. It also adds a dashcam, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a rear Type-C charging port and Bluelink connectivity with over 60 connected features. Hyundai also says the system supports more than 300 embedded voice commands that function even without internet access.
The Exter stays put with Hyundai’s proven 1.2-litre four-cylinder Kappa petrol engine which is offered with both five-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. The company highlights that it is the only SUV in its class to use a four-cylinder petrol motor. Customers can also opt for the 1.2-litre bi-fuel petrol-CNG version coupled with a manual transmission.
Safety equipment list has also been strengthened as it now provides more than 45 safety features overall with 30 of them available as standard across variants. Six airbags remain standard fitment while Electronic Stability Control and Hill Start Assist Control have now also been made standard throughout the lineup. The updated Exter range is sold in seven monotone shades and one dual-tone paint scheme including new Golden Bronze and Titanium Black Matte options.
Variant prices start from Rs. 5.79 lakh for the petrol manual range and extend to Rs. 9.41 lakh for the top AMT trim while the CNG lineup is priced between Rs. 6.99 lakh and Rs. 9.40 lakh. Bookings are open for Rs. 11,000 across Hyundai dealerships and through the brand’s online sales platform.
