Currently, the Toyota Innova Hycross’ hybrid variant is nearly Rs. 8 lakh more expensive than the petrol variant in the base trim and over Rs. 11.50 lakh rupees more expensive in the top trim
The Toyota Innova Hycross may be priced from Rs. 18.33 lakh (ex-showroom), but its hybrid variant, which starts at Rs. 26.30 lakh (ex-showroom), is out of reach for many customers, especially fleet operators. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) plans to make the hybrid variant more accessible with a lower-priced trim by early next year.
The Toyota Innova Crysta is set to ride into the sunset next year, ahead of the implementation of CAFE 3 emission norms. The body-on-frame, diesel-powered MPV, although now a decade old, remains popular among fleet operators and is a key product for TKM in terms of sales volume and profitability.
According to ARAI, the Innova Hycross petrol achieves a fuel economy of 16.13 km/l, while the Innova Hycross Hybrid is rated at 22.16 km/l. Needless to say, the real-world figures are much lower, which makes the petrol variant unfeasible for fleet operators. Thus, even though TKM offers the Innova Hycross petrol in a fleet version, that product has not seen much traction, and so most fleet customers continue preferring the Innova Crysta.

TKM needs a more fuel-efficient replacement for the Innova Crysta to sustain fleet sales and sees a de-contented version of the Innova Hycross Hybrid as the solution. Based on the current trim structure, we think the new base trim designed for fleet operators will lack many features offered in the current base trim (VX) designed for individual customers.
On the outside, TKM may use dual-LED headlamps instead of Tri-Eye LED units with LED position lamp, 16-inch steel wheels with wheel caps instead of 17-inch alloy wheels, part-LED rear combination lamps instead of full-LED units, and regular intermittent wipers instead of variable units. The company may avoid equipping the vehicle with a rear chrome garnish and a rear defogger.

Inside, the colour scheme and decor elements would go more basic. TKM may exclude features like an automatic climate control system, an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system, cruise control, a USB Type-A port in the front, passive keyless entry, and rear retractable sunshades.
The 7-inch driver information display, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, an auto-dimming IRVM, and an acoustic glass windshield may also be absent. In terms of safety and security, we expect front parking sensors, a reverse parking camera, an ultrasonic & glass break sensor, and an acoustic vehicle alert system to be excluded.
