While Hyundai continues to remain in the lead in India’s fast-growing midsize SUV segment, Mahindra has occupied most of the segment
For years, Hyundai has been leading India’s midsize SUV segment with its runaway hit – the Creta. Competition in this highly profitable segment is rising, though, and last fiscal, Mahindra narrowed its gap with the South Korean automaker and also dominated the segment.
Hyundai sold 2,01,921 units of the Creta in India in FY2026. Compared to FY2025, the best-selling mid-size SUV in the country saw a growth of 3.6%. The second, third, and fourth spots in FY2026 were all held by Mahindra, with the Scorpio, Thar, and Bolero, respectively.
Mahindra delivered 1,78,800 units of the Scorpio, 1,26,261 units of the Thar, and 1,10,136 units of the Bolero. These models saw a year-on-year growth of 8.5%, 48.8%, and 16.2%, respectively. The Thar saw a massive growth most likely because FY2026 was the first full financial year of the Thar Roxx on the market.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder was the fifth-highest-selling mid-size SUV in India in FY2026. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) sold 99,890 units of this model, 65.4% more than in FY2025.
The Maruti Grand Vitara, a corporate cousin of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, took the sixth spot. Maruti Suzuki sources the mid-size SUV from TKM, and this is the only such model in its line-up. The company sold 86,973 units of the Grand Vitara, 29.8% less than in FY2025. The decline in sales can be attributed to the arrival of the Maruti Victoris in September 2025.

The Kia Seltos was the seventh most popular choice, with 83,747 units delivered. Compared to FY2025, its sales went up 15.3% in FY2026. Kia may have seen a spike in demand in the fourth quarter with the launch of the second-generation model. Next was the Maruti Victoris, with 75,590 units sold.
The ninth position was also occupied by Mahindra, with the XUV 700, the pre-facelift version of the XUV 7XO. The old model registered 57,986 units in sales, down 37.7% year-on-year, which was most likely because Mahindra phased it out in December 2025 ahead of the XUV 7XO launch in January 2026. In total, Mahindra sold 5,54,154 mid-size SUVs in FY2026, accounting for 45% of the segment (12,23,616 units).

The tenth-highest-selling mid-size SUV in FY2026 was the MG Windsor. This was the first full financial year of sales for the model. JSW MG Motor sold 46,720 units, 140.9% more than in FY2025.
