New gen Toyota Fortuner is expected to make its world premiere before the closure of this year or in early 2027 before reaching markets like India
Ever since its introduction in markets like India, the Toyota Fortuner has built a reputation for toughness and strong road presence. Currently, Toyota is preparing a full generational change with the all-new model expected to make its global debut sometime between late 2026 and early 2027. What’s happening underneath is arguably the biggest change.
The upcoming Fortuner is likely to switch to Toyota’s TNGA-F ladder frame platform – the same base used by the latest Toyota Hilux and is more advanced than what is found in the existing model. The new architecture is brought up to improve structural strength while also enhancing rideability and off-road capability amongst other enhancements.
The seven-seater SUV is also expected to take a big step forward in terms of equipment and technology. A redesigned dashboard featuring two large 12.3-inch screens – one for infotainment and another for driver information – is likely this time around. Along with that, features such as connected tech, over-the-air updates and a 360-degree camera system could be introduced.
On the outside, the design direction appears to be moving towards a more aggressive and evolved look taking plant of inspiration from the brand’s global lineup. Early sightings suggest a sharper front end with sleeker LED headlamps, a wider grille and a more sculpted bumper layout at the front and rear. It will apparently get a set of newly designed alloy wheels.
The rear profile could also see a new approach. A full-width LED light bar connecting the tail lamps is expected along with prominent Fortuner lettering across the tailgate. Other changes may include redesigned pillars, thicker body cladding and a more pronounced character lines. Toyota is likely to offer features such as a panoramic sunroof, upgraded climate control and a suite of ADAS.
With multiple test vehicles already spotted overseas, it is apparent that development is in an advanced stage but no official launch timeline has been indicated by the Japanese auto major yet. Once unveiled globally, the new Fortuner is expected to make its way to India soon after considering its popularity locally.
