Kia’s second mass-market electric vehicle, the Syros EV, claims a segment-first 500+ km certified range while getting buyback assurance and BaaS ownership options

Kia India has taken the wraps off the Syros EV as its second mass-market electric vehicle for the domestic market with pre-bookings now open for Rs. 25,000. The electric SUV gets a claimed 526 km ARAI-certified driving range – making it the first model in its class to cross the 500 km milestone. Alongside the long driving range, Kia has brought in a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty, assured buyback programme and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plans.

The Syros EV will be available with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery packs. The larger unit delivers a certified 526 km (MIDC Full) driving range while the standard battery is rated at 443 km. Power comes from an electric motor kicking out 171 PS making it one of the powerful models in its segment. Kia also claims a 0 to 100 kmph sprint of 8.1 seconds with the extended-range version. Charging duties are equally competitive as the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in 39 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger while a 10.8 kW onboard AC charger is also present.

The Korean brand has introduced several EV-exclusive technologies. The Syros EV gets i-Pedal single-pedal driving, regenerative braking adjustment through steering-mounted paddle shifters with Auto mode, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, battery heating, battery conditioning for quicker DC charging, a Digital Key, Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS) and a column-mounted Shift-by-Wire selector. The IP67-rated Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery pack uses a liquid-cooled thermal management system to cope with varying weather conditions.

Supporting the ownership proposition is Kia’s K-Charge ecosystem integrated into the MyKia application. The platform combines access to over 20,300 charging points across 23 charging network operators enabling users to locate, navigate to and pay for charging sessions through a single digital wallet. Kia has also expanded its physical infrastructure with more than 129 dealerships equipped with DC fast chargers and over 275 EV-ready workshops across the country.

While retaining the upright silhouette of the standard Syros, the electric version receives some EV-specific styling revisions. The front fascia gets Kia’s latest Digital Tiger Face which is accompanied by vertically stacked LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights with integrated turn indicators and standard LED fog lamps. The rear carries similar LED tail lamps while the profile features flush auto-deploying door handles, 17-inch crystal-cut dual-tone aerodynamic alloy wheels, gloss black skid plates with aero inserts and redesigned roof rails.
