Yamaha has filed the design patent for the NMAX 155 Tech MAX in India. A patent filing does not confirm a market launch but it does indicate that Yamaha is safeguarding the scooter’s styling before taking a decision on its India plans. The move has renewed speculation surrounding the NMAX family particularly as the premium scooter segment continues to see the arrival of new products.

Unlike the Aerox 155, which has a distinctly sporty character, the NMAX 155 Tech MAX has been developed with an emphasis on longer distance riding. Its larger bodywork, tall front apron, compact windscreen, broad stepped seat, spacious floorboard and integrated grab rails give it the proportions of a proper maxi-scooter. The Tech MAX further distinguishes itself through exclusive graphics, premium paint finishes, a leather-look seat with contrast stitching and additional trim upgrades over the standard NMAX 155.

The talking point, however, is Yamaha’s YECVT (Yamaha Electric Continuously Variable Transmission). Unlike a conventional CVT, the electronically controlled system lets the rider alter throttle response according to riding conditions. Town Mode enables smoother acceleration for regular riding while Sport Mode sharpens response for quicker acceleration. Yamaha has also added a Downshift function – allowing the rider to access greater acceleration during overtaking or climbing gradients without changing gears manually.

Power is derived from Yamaha’s familiar 155 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder Blue Core engine featuring Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). The EURO5+ compliant motor globally develops 15 PS at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm at 6,500 rpm coupled with an automatic CVT transmission. The equipment list places the Tech MAX among the most feature loaded scooters in its category.

International versions receive a 4.2-inch TFT colour display with smartphone connectivity, Garmin navigation compatibility, MyRide app integration, Smart Key keyless operation, USB Type-C charging socket, automatic start-stop system, traction control, hazard lamps and a large under-seat storage compartment capable of accommodating a full-face helmet.

The chassis is based on an underbone frame suspended by telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers with adjustable preload. Braking duties are handled by 230 mm disc brakes at both ends assisted by dual-channel ABS. The scooter rides on 13-inch alloy wheels fitted with 110/70 front and 130/70 rear tyres. Dimensionally, the NMAX 155 Tech MAX measures 1,935 mm in length, 740 mm in width and 1,200 mm in height while the wheelbase stands at 1,340 mm.

The seat height is a manageable 770 mm and the scooter has a wet weight of 135 kg. Depending on the market, Yamaha offers the Tech MAX in Ceramic Grey, Dark Magma, Crystal Graphite and Midnight Black finishes. Each colour receives model-specific graphics and detailing that separate it from the standard NMAX.
