Ather’s first EL platform based scooter is expected to launch around the upcoming festive season with a practical packaging and affordable pricing

Ather Energy is looking ahead for its next electric scooter and the model is expected to be based on the EL01 concept shown at Community Day 2025. The production version will use Ather’s new EL platform and could arrive around the festive season placing it below the Rizta and the more expensive 450 range in the domestic market.

The EL01-based scooter has already been spotted testing in India besides the design getting patented. The test mule points to a more conventional family scooter shape compared to the sportier 450 line. The design also differs from the Rizta as the new model is expected to target a lower price band and higher day-to-day usability. It could rival the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1 X and other practical electric scooters in the mass-market space.

The EL01 concept used a wide front apron, handlebar-mounted rectangular LED headlamp, flat single-piece seat, large floorboard and 14-inch wheels. Ather also showcased a large underseat storage area capable of taking two helmets. The production version may not carry every concept detail but the basic family scooter configuration is expected to stay.

The new EL architecture has been developed to support multiple scooter types and reports indicate that it can use battery packs from around 2 kWh to 5 kWh and wheel sizes from 10 inches to 14 inches. The concept was also shown with a patented AC-DC module and an onboard charging wire placed inside the storage area.

The feature would make home charging simpler but Ather has not confirmed whether the same setup will reach the production scooter. Speculations show that the EL platform scooter may use a simpler hub-motor layout instead of the belt-driven setup seen on Ather’s existing scooters. A hub-motor arrangement would reduce complexity and cost which fits the purpose of a more affordable family EV.

Ather may also use a smaller touchscreen or different display options with latest AtherStack. The concept was shown with a large screen while the final model could get different instrumentation across trims to keep pricing under control. Connected features, ride modes and navigation support may still remain part of top-spec variants.

In addition, it was previously noted that it wouldn’t cost under Rs. 1 lakh. The new scooter could also benefit from Ather’s forthcoming Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra. The site is in Bidkin, Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC).
