2026 Toyota Hilux has been made available only in two trims powered by a 2.8L diesel engine producing 204 PS and 500 Nm as in Fortuner
Only two trims, both expensive, loaded and are diesel. Toyota has introduced the new Hilux in Japan with a very clear frame of mind as it is not being treated as a basic load carrier for its home market. It arrives from Thailand as a lifestyle pickup targetting private buyers who want SUV grade levels of comfort without losing proper four wheel drive hardware.
A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen sit inside a dashboard shaped closer to newer Toyota SUVs than older Hilux generations. The layout carries angular surfaces, hexagon themed vents, a flatter gear selector and Prado inspired steering wheel design. SofTex upholstery is used in both grades with black for the Z and a Mineral cabin shade for the Z Adventure.
Technology has moved up noticeably because Toyota has changed some of the hardware underneath. Electric power steering and an electronic parking brake allow the latest Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite to bring adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering assist, junction support for autonomous emergency braking and Proactive Driving Assist.

The powertrain remains deliberately simple. Both variants use the 1GD FTV 2.8L four cylinder turbo diesel engine kicking out 204 PS between 3,000 rpm and 3,400 rpm and 500 Nm from 1,600 rpm to 2,800 rpm. There is no mild hybrid system and no electric option for Japan at launch. A six-speed automatic transmission and part time four wheel drive system are standard while fuel economy is rated at 11.9 kmpl under the local WLTP cycle.
The pickup still uses the IMV ladder frame architecture but the latest version receives revisions focussed on better rigidity, lower vibration and sharper steering response. Rear disc brakes replace drums adding another functional upgrade over the older truck. The Z grade is priced at 4,980,800 yen (Rs. 29.71 lakh) and gets black overfenders along with 18 inch dual tone alloy wheels.

The Z Adventure costs 5,500,000 yen (Rs. 32.80 lakh) and brings black cross spoke wheels, tougher skid plate detailing, side mouldings, bed liner, sports bar, grippier side steps, black Toyota lettering and a tailgate damper. Its design follows the Cyber Sumo theme with slim LED projector headlamps, L shaped daytime running lights, a black Toyota script bar and a large body coloured grille.
The rear gains redesigned tail lamps with C shaped LED graphics, stamped Toyota branding and bumper steps for easier bed access. Proper off road equipment remains in place beneath the lifestyle polish. Multi Terrain System offers Dirt, Sand, Mud, Rock and Snow modes through a rotary selector while a rear locking differential is fitted as standard. The 360-degree camera also supports Multi Terrain Monitor functions with surrounding and underfloor views.
