Customers deliveries of the Tesla Model Y Premium RWD variant has been scheduled to commence next month in India
The American EV manufacturer has officially introduced the new Model Y Premium Rear Wheel Drive variant with deliveries scheduled to commence from July 2026. More than 2,100 litres of cargo space, a larger touchscreen and a completely redesigned cabin atmosphere headline the latest addition to Tesla India lineup.
Priced at Rs. 50.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the new version sits below the recently launched six seat Model Y L while coming up with several equipment and design upgrades to further consolidate the EV’s portfolio. Unlike the standard configuration, the Model Y Premium introduces a fully black interior theme extending across the headliner and cabin trim.
Consumers can alternatively choose a Zen Grey interior finish which introduces a lighter and more pleasing visual appearance. Tesla has also upgraded the infotainment experience through a new 16-inch touchscreen unit featuring improved responsiveness and revised software integration.

The Model Y remains among the most practical electric SUVs in its category. Cargo carrying capacity reaches 2,138 litres with the rear seats folded while accommodation remains available for five occupants. Performance figures remain competitive for the segment as well. Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels this time around while the electric powertrain enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds.
Certified driving range stands at 500 km under WLTP testing conditions allowing the Model Y Premium to target customers looking for different usage requirements. Tesla also used the announcement to highlight the Model Y L introduced in India last month. The larger six seat version delivers a claimed 681 km WLTP range and completes the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in 5.0 seconds.

Its cargo capacity expands further to 2,539 litres while the three row configuration prioritises practicality. Tesla says the Model Y Premium and Model Y L have secured top ratings from multiple global safety assessment programmes including NHTSA, IIHS, Euro NCAP, ANCAP and C IASI.
The company is also attempting to lower the entry barrier for premium EV ownership. Financing plans currently allow customers to purchase the Model Y Premium through monthly installments starting from Rs. 39,990 with an initial down payment of Rs. 6 lakh which is subject to lender approval.

Tesla estimates monthly savings of up to Rs. 20,000 through reduced fuel and maintenance expenditure compared to similarly priced petrol and diesel vehicles. Home charging support has also been made available across all states while the company has reiterated plans to expand charging infrastructure, retail outlets and service coverage across India.
