New VW taigun

2026 Volkswagen Taigun will get a host of cosmetic updates and interior revisions while a new eight-speed AT is also likely

Volkswagen India is gearing up to introduce an updated version of the Taigun in the domestic market on April 9, 2026 – following the recent arrival of the facelifted version of its sibling, the Skoda Kushaq. Mechanically, as you might expect, the midsize SUV will stick with its existing duo of turbo petrol engine options.

Customers can expect the familiar 1.0-litre unit delivering 115 hp and 178 Nm alongside the more potent 1.5-litre engine producing 150 hp and 250 Nm. The bigger talking point, however, could be the introduction of a new 8-speed torque converter automatic for the smaller engine, replacing the 6-speed automatic unit.

In terms of styling, the facelifted model will get notable additions to bring a refreshed vibe. Recent sightings hint at a redesigned front end featuring slimmer LED headlamps connected by a light bar along with a glowing Volkswagen badge. Updates to the grille, reprofiled bumpers and revised tail lamp detailing are also expected.

The updated Taigun could receive new upholstery themes and improved material finishes. Equipment levels are also set to go up with features such as a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster in place of an eight-inch unit, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof could be offered.

Volkswagen may also improve cabin cooling by introducing a more efficient air conditioning system possibly using a variable-geometry compressor better suited for hot climates and optimized piping. The rear seats may feature a massage function while higher trims could offer a panoramic sunroof while a single-pane sunroof could be standard on all variants just as the latest Kushaq.

The SUV will undoubtedly continue to be based on the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform while increased boot volume and more standard safety features are likely too. Pricing is anticipated to see a marginal increase over the current ex-showroom bracket and upon launch, it will continue to compete with established players such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, MG Astor and others.
